This page provides resources and information about conducting community-based research with queer communities, including ethical concerns and unique issues.
There are two main ethical concerns when conducting queer scholarship and community research.
According to Mulé et al., 2014, neoliberal pressures significantly impact LGBTQ+ movements and research. Researchers must be aware of how funding sources and institutional pressures formulate research agendas and outcomes. Their work should be examined critically by understanding how neoliberal ideologies mainstream and depoliticize queer issues. Secondly, intersectionality is another critical consideration. It is important to recognize the diverse experiences within queer community such as intersecting identities related to race, class, gender, and ability so that research will not overlook the marginalized groups (Seitz, 2020).
