CANSIM (Canadian Socio-Economic Information Management System) is Statistics Canada's database of time series (sequences of values of a variable measured over time, spaced apart at uniform time intervals) covering a wide variety of social and economic aspects of Canadian life. Topics include the system of national accounts, labour, manufacturing, construction, trade, agriculture and finance. As well, selected demographic and social data, such as population estimates and vital statistics, are available. There is no charge for data via this interface. Geographic area: Canada (national and sub-national), some United States, some international. Time span of data coverage: varies by series.

"The Government Electronic Directory Services (GEDS) provides a directory of public servants across Canada.
Information in this directory is supplied by individual federal government departments and agencies and updated by one or more data administrators within each department. Some departments do not list all their employees".

The Government of Canada began using the Web in the mid-1990s to share information about its institutions with Canadians. In 2004, the Library and Archives of Canada Act gave LAC the authority to collect and preserve a representative sample of Canadian Web content. LAC has been collecting federal and non-federal web content since 2005.

Under the Statistics Act, Statistics Canada is required to collect, compile, analyse, abstract and publish statistical information relating to the commercial, industrial, financial, social, economic and general activities and condition of the people of Canada.

"Our mission is to prevent business practices that are anticompetitive or deceptive or unfair to consumers; to enhance informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process; and to accomplish this without unduly burdening legitimate business activity".

First published in 1878, the Statistical Abstract serves as the official federal summary of statistics and provides over 1,400 tables of benchmark measures on the demographic, housing, social, political, and economic condition of the United States.
