Film Studies

A non-profit initiative dedicated to digitizing collections of classic media periodicals that belong in the public domain for full public access. The project is supported by owners of materials who loan them for scanning, and donors who contribute funds to cover the cost of scanning. We have currently scanned over 2 million pages, and that number is growing.

ScreenSite facilitates the teaching and research of film/TV/new media and is designed principally for educators and students. In 2012 we officially partnered with the Society for Cinema and Media Studies to augment their directory of online resources.

Established in 1972 to address the under representation and misrepresentation of women in the media industry, Women Make Movies is a multicultural, multiracial, non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films and videotapes by and about women.

The Grants to Film and Video Artists program supports Canadian professional independent artists who use cinema and video as a mode of artistic expression, and provides them with opportunities for creative renewal and for production of independent film and video works. The program offers three components: Scriptwriting Grants, Production Grants and Research/Creation Grants.

The Canada Feature Film Fund’s Development Program is available to production companies looking to finance the development stage of their feature film projects.

The Independent Production Fund was established in 1991 to provide financial support for dramatic television series created by Canadian independent producers for Canadian private broadcasters. In 2010, the IPF expanded its mandate to include an experimental pilot program to include financing of drama series for the web. This program has now been extended indefinitely and will continue to support content creators of drama series created for the web or mobile platforms.
