About this Guide
This is a guide to the key tort law materials available to TMU students through the TMU Library.
What is tort law?
Many authors have striven to define tort law and to mark it off from criminal law, contract law and quasi-contract law, but none of them has been entirely successful. Perhaps the best working definition so far produced is an injury, other than a breach of contract, which the law will redress with damages (Halsbury's Laws of Canada, 2021)
Researchers beginning investigations into Tort Law should refer to legal encyclopedias like the one referenced above which describe the hard to define nature of tort law and its scope. This guide has listed out some of the areas of tort law and best resources, namely conspiracy, defamation, negligence, and nuisance.
Books, including loose-leafs, are good resources for learning more about specific aspects of tort law.
This guide also include citation resources.
