Web of Science is a research platform which draws on publications under the Clarivate banner of titles. This database, searchable here, offers interdisciplinary titles, insight, and metrics useful for tracking your publications, peer reviews, and editorial for Research Impact.
One feature Web of Science offers is the Web of Science ResearcherID, which is a worthwhile function to opt into. Once you claim your Web of Science ResearcherID, you can claim your publications, consolidate your metrics, and connect your account to ORCID for easy reporting.
It is important to remember that Web of Science only indexes Clarivate publications, so some expected titles may be absent: be sure to take this into account when you consider metrics.
Steps for Activating your Web of Science ResearcherID
Activating your Web of Science ResearcherID is a simple process. If you have specific questions, please refer to the Clarivate user Experience Guide, or read on.
- Log in to Web of Science through the TMU catalogue.
- Navigate to the top right corner and click 'sign in.'
- Choose the option to sign in with either your Google ID (your TMU credentials) or your ORCID account ID, as demonstrated below.

- Once you are logged in, navigate to the left-hand toolbar and look for the icon as demonstrated. You can also achieve this by going to the top right corner to click your name.

- Update your profile: we encourage you to fill out your profile with as much content as you can, including affiliations, alternate names, and biographical information. You can also set your privacy settings to your liking.
- Connect your ORCID: if you associate your Web of Science ResearcherID to your ORCID, any new updates to Web of Science under your name will be automatically added to ORCID. Do this by navigating to your profile settings in the top right, and finding the ORCID Syncing section.

- Consolidate your identity: in your profile, look for the icon marked 'review matching profiles.' Click this to see if other profiles share your name: if you find a duplicate (often affiliated with a prior university) follow the instructions to ensure you have a single presence.
- Claim your scholarship: you can add publications in various ways. This includes:
- Claiming your Web of Science author profile, as long as you have at least one publication in Web of Science
- ORCID import, after connecting your profile to your ORCID;
- Alternate email addresses and names: if you have published under different email addresses or names, you can add these to your account to associate those records
- Identifier search: add articles with DOIs or PubMed IDs
- File upload: upload an RIS, BibTex or CSV file (from Google Scholar, Endnote or other reference management software)
