Black Studies

Welcome to the Black Studies Research Guide.

This guide has a specific focus on people of African descent in the Americas, Canada in particular (Black African diaspora in Canada).

Black Studies is an interdisciplinary field. As such, this guide will provide researchers with information on the historical, social, economic, political, and cultural histories and present day experiences of Black peoples of African descent, more specifically in Canada. This guide also includes materials on histories of colonialism, slavery, anti-Black racism and resistance.

Use the menu to find books, journal articles, databases, archives, statistics, data, periodicals, films, documentaries and community resources. Depending on the source, access to these materials may be limited to members of the university community.

For further information about the Black Studies Library Guide, please visit the Library's Research Help Desk, contact the University Library online chat service or submit a request for an appointment with a librarian.

This Library Guide was created collaboratively by Kevin Manuel - Sociology Librarian, Dr. Melanie Knight - Advisor to the Dean of Arts on Blackness and Black Diasporic Education and Associate Professor in Sociology and Sara Esayas - MA Student, Communication & Culture.
