Library E-Reserve Faculty Guide: Scanning

Step-by-step instructions for how to set-up and add online readings for your course.

Getting Items Scanned

If you have a physical copy of a reading you want to make available, you can drop it off at the library Circulation Desk on the library's second floor, AFTER you have emailed your reading list or syllabus to reserve@torontomu.ca. Be sure to include your course code.

The library will scan it and make a digital copy that can be shared online.

Dropping off an item for scanning without sending an email first is not recommended.

A small portion of a resource can be copied and shared, for educational purposes, under the TMU Fair Dealings Guidelines. However, you must keep in mind the limits on the amount of a resource that can be reproduced:

  • 10% of less of an entire print resource
  • Up to one chapter of a book (One chapter can exceed 10%)
  • One article per issue of a journal (One journal article can exceed 10%)

A reading that exceeds these limits will require that the library ask for permission from the copyright owner.

See our Copyright section for more details.
